A Flores overland package is a multi-day, point-to-point road journey across the island of Flores in a private car or minibus with a dedicated driver. From our base in Labuan Bajo, the classic route runs west-to-east through Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende and Kelimutu, and can finish in Maumere so you fly out from the far side of the island instead of backtracking. As of 2026, Labuan Bajo Car Rental arranges this as a fully private charter, priced in USD, with SUV or HiAce vehicles and one-way drop options built in.
What is a Flores overland package by car?
Flores is roughly 350 km end to end along winding mountain roads, so the island is best seen slowly, by land, rather than in a single day. An overland package bundles the vehicle, fuel and a driver who knows every switchback, viewpoint and village stop into one continuous itinerary. You keep the same car and driver for the whole trip, luggage stays on board, and you decide the pace. Because it is a private charter and not a shared shuttle, the route flexes around your group.
Two vehicle classes cover almost every group:
- SUV (Toyota Innova, Innova Zenix or Fortuner) — ideal for 2 to 5 travellers who want comfort on the mountain passes. See our car rental with driver page for the driver-included format.
- Toyota HiAce minibus — for families and groups of 6 to 12 with more luggage and more legroom. Details on the HiAce rental Labuan Bajo page.
Which stops are included on the overland route?
The Trans-Flores road strings together some of eastern Indonesia’s most striking scenery. A typical package works through these highlights, west to east:
- Cancar (near Ruteng) — the famous lingko spiderweb rice fields, best viewed from a small hilltop.
- Ruteng & Ranamese Lake — cool Manggarai highlands, a crater lake ringed by rainforest.
- Wae Rebo (optional) — a traditional cone-roofed village reached by a scenic trek from Denge; usually an overnight stay.
- Bajawa & Bena Village — Ngada megalithic villages under Inerie volcano, plus Blue Stone Beach at Penggajawa.
- Riung 17 Islands (optional) — a coastal detour for snorkelling and island-hopping.
- Ende — port town and the house where Sukarno was exiled, gateway to the Kelimutu foothills.
- Moni & Kelimutu — the three-coloured crater lakes, visited pre-dawn for the sunrise.
- Maumere region — Koka and Paga beaches and Sikka weaving villages before the eastern airport.

Prefer a shorter airport-based day trip on either end? Pair the overland package with our Labuan Bajo airport car rental for pickups, or a full-day car rental around Labuan Bajo before you set off.
One-way drop options
You do not have to return to Labuan Bajo. Most guests finish in Maumere or Ende and fly back to Bali or onward, which turns a there-and-back drive into a single forward journey. A one-way surcharge covers the driver’s return leg and fuel; we confirm the exact figure with your itinerary. Reverse itineraries (Maumere → Labuan Bajo) and mid-island start or end points are also possible.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do I need for a Flores overland trip?
Three days is the practical minimum to reach Kelimutu comfortably; four or five days give you a relaxed pace and room for Wae Rebo, Riung or beach stops near Maumere. Fewer than three days means long driving hours with little time to explore.
Is the driver a guide as well?
Our drivers know the route, timings and stops and speak working English, so they handle logistics and local orientation. For deep cultural or trekking commentary (for example inside Wae Rebo), a specialist local guide can be added on request.
Can the trip end in Maumere instead of Labuan Bajo?
Yes. One-way drops at Maumere or Ende airports are standard and let you fly onward rather than backtrack. A one-way surcharge for the driver’s return applies and is confirmed in your quote.
Are accommodation and meals included?
The base package covers the car, driver and fuel. We can arrange hotels and homestays along the route on request; meals and entrance fees are usually paid directly as you go.
